Happy 10th birthday!
Happy 10th birthday to my business! I have to wish it to myself as it’s just me!
A decade…
That’s a cracking lot of local free range eggs, gallons of organic Madagascan vanilla, possibly a whole lemon grove, miles of hand piping, thousands and thousands of sugar petals, one dead (burst into flames!) Kitchen Aid mixer – I’m now firmly in the Kenwood camp, numerous broken Dresden tools, one broken ankle whilst delivering a wedding cake (the cake was fine!), years of washing up, countless trepidatious deliveries….. and oodles of happy clients!
Working in solitude, today there’ll be no big bash, no clinking of Champagne flutes (I don’t drink)… just this blog post. And the quiet contentment of being, for the last decade, paid to flex my creative muscles as I finish a Christening cake for a couple whose wedding cake I made last year ♥. What a treat to be a tiny part of people’s happy milestones!
Here’s a decade compressed into 10 images… I haven’t picked them because they’re my favourites – they just mostly complement each other in pairs…
2018 and 2017

2018 – opulent botanical wedding cake (part II) for J&C celebrating at The Sun Pavilion. (I also made the cake for their USA destination wedding.) 2017 – dove grey and marble wedding cake for K&L celebrating at Allerton Castle.
2016 and 2015

2016 – a blousy sugar peony adorns this wedding cake, for P&K at The Mansion, Leeds. 2015 – for K&A at Swinton Park – that piping is inspired by the Tiffany necklace with which the groom proposed.
2014 and 2013

2014 – a 5am alarm set for an early delivery to Kings Croft Hotel for K&G. 2013 – lilac and lace for J&P at Scampston Hall.
2012 and 2011

2012 – pretty lace piping and rosebuds for Annie turning 21. 2011 – wedding cake and cupcakes (baked and decorated whilst standing on one leg, delivered and set up on crutches) for A&K celebrating at Swinton Park.
2010 and 2009

2010 – my first ever wedding! For M&H at Hotel du Vin, on what also happened to be my 10th wedding anniversary! It was an emotional moment for me, seeing the bride in her wedding dress and thinking back to that day for me exactly 10 years earlier. And, finally, 2009 – where it all began – supplying cafes and farm shops with freshly baked cupcakes in mouthwatering flavours.
Thank you
Obviously, I couldn’t include them all – that would have been a long blog post… but I remember them all. From the cupcakes ordered by a lady who knew it was to be her last birthday, to Christening cakes for first birthdays, and wedding cakes for that BIG day, thank you to all my lovely clients who have put their trust in me on the most momentous days of their lives! And thank you to my students too – I love to see your styles developing!
Happy 10th birthday to my business… here’s to the next….
years!
With love, Amanda x
